The Settlement Creek brings life to millions of animals that wait throughout the dry season in the Wentworth aggregation of wetlands for the revitalising flows of the ‘Wet’. It is a river as valuable for people as it is for the birds that travel so far to breed here and is best defined by its Barramundi filled fishing holes, extensive wetlands and swimming beaches.

From its origin in the Northern Territory, the Gregory River flows through Queensland's arid Gulf Savannah before joining with the Nicholson River and streaming into the Gulf of Carpentaria. Along the way, its clear, green, fast flowing waters sustain the remnants of a prehistoric rainforest and unique northern Australian wildlife.

Morning Inlet

Morning Inlet – located at the very base of the Gulf of Carpentaria - is a fundamental part of the greater wetland provinces of Southern Gulf Aggregation wetlands. These wetlands are the largest continuous estuarine wetlands of its type in northern Australia and one of the most important areas for shorebirds in Australia.

Staaten River

Staaten River

West of Cairns, halfway across Cape York Peninsula, the Staaten River begins its meandering flow between crumbling sandstone gullies and drooping tea-tree gums, towards its terminus in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Along the way its waters overflow into a plait of intertwining lagoons and billabongs creating an enormous wetland sanctuary for a vast array of unique wildlife and plants.
